BROKE Wins @ The 2023 Anthem Awards

BROKE received a Bronze Award in Research Projects for Human and Civil Rights at the 2nd Annual Anthem Awards. The honor, a new prize produced by the Webby’s, celebrates the best purpose- and mission-driven work online.

BROKE, a collaboration between The Radical Communicators Network, the Center for Public Interest Communications, and Milli, is an intervention for the philanthropic and non-profit sectors to communicate justly about how the rich got rich and the poor stay poor.

Since its unveiling last summer, this multidisciplinary project has reached tens of thousands of social movement communicators, workers, strategists, journalists, academics, and non-profit professionals. BROKE challenges us to ask: is my organization, coalition, or movement telling stories about economic injustice that reinforce the status quo of power and privilege or that builds ideological power for a society where we all have what we need to thrive?

We dedicate this award to our colleague and comrade, Rakeem Robinson, who passed away on October 24, 2022.

*Awards don’t change the material conditions of poor people struggling against a capitalist system. And this project is one small step toward a liberatory future for all.
